Le Corbusier'in bilinmeyen sinema yapısı: Neelam

Neelam Sineması, Le Corbusier tarafından planlanan Chandigarh kentinin modernist kamusal yapılarından biri olarak 1950'li yıllarda inşa ediliyor. Mimar Aditya Prakash tarafından tasarlanan yapı, Corbusier ve Pierre Jeanneret'in yönlendirmeleriyle biçimleniyor. Sector 17'de yer alan sinema, kentin merkezinde yer alan az sayıda sinema salonundan biri olarak öne çıkıyor.


Yapı, iki masif tuğla duvarla desteklenen geniş kavisli çatısı ve iç mekânda kullanılan mavi fayans panelleriyle dikkat çekiyor. Salonun tavanındaki metalik elemanlar, ses dalgalarının geometrisini izleyen detaylarla mekâna akustik ve görsel bir karakter kazandırıyor. UNESCO Dünya Mirası kapsamına alınmayan Neelam Sineması, özgün niteliklerine rağmen korunma statüsü açısından belirsizliğini sürdürüyor.

Neelam Cinema, one of the modernist public buildings in Chandigarh planned by Le Corbusier, was built in the 1950s. Designed by architect Aditya Prakash, the building was shaped by the guidance of Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. Located in Sector 17, the cinema stands out as one of the few cinema halls in the city centre.


The building is notable for its wide curved roof supported by two massive brick walls and the blue tile panels used in the interior. The metallic elements on the ceiling of the hall, with details that follow the geometry of sound waves, give the space an acoustic and visual character. Although not included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, the Neelam Cinema continues to face uncertainty regarding its conservation status despite its unique qualities.
