Avlulu bir yapı: Kimpton Las Mercedes Oteli

Santo Domingo'nun Kolonyal Şehri'nde yer alan Kimpton Las Mercedes Oteli, Moneo Brock Studio tarafından 2024 yılında tasarlanıyor. Proje, 16. yüzyıldan kalma tarihi dokuyu çağdaş ihtiyaçlarla buluşturarak, koruma ve dönüşüm arasında dengeli bir yaklaşım benimsiyor. Orijinal cepheler korunurken, yeni yapılar ve avlular bölgenin ölçeğiyle uyumlu biçimde eklemleniyor.


Merkezdeki iç avlu, yerel bitki örtüsüyle birlikte korunarak yapının kamusal odağını oluşturuyor. Traverten, ahşap ve seramik gibi yerel malzemelerle şekillenen iç mekânlar, tropikal iklime uyum sağlayan bir tasarım anlayışı sunuyor. Otel, yeni ve eski yapı unsurlarını bütüncül bir kurgu içinde bir araya getirerek, tarihi çevrede süreklilik amaçlıyor.

Located in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo, the Kimpton Las Mercedes Hotel is being designed by Moneo Brock Studio for completion in 2024. The project combines the historic fabric of the 16th century with contemporary needs, adopting a balanced approach between preservation and transformation. While preserving the original facades, new structures and courtyards are seamlessly integrated into the surrounding area, maintaining the scale of the neighbourhood.


The central inner courtyard, preserved along with its local vegetation, forms the public focal point of the building. The interiors, shaped by local materials such as travertine, wood and ceramics, offer a design approach that adapts to the tropical climate. The hotel brings together new and old architectural elements in a holistic design, aiming to create continuity in the historic surroundings.
